OVERVIEW
No camper is complete without the comfort and convenience of Captains seats to replace the standard single driver and double bench seat.
Many conversions do not include this important feature and simply retain the bench front seat format from it’s panel van roots. These bench seats were not designed for comfort over long distances and do not feature adjustment and armrests. Some converters choose to fit a bench seat swivel to provide extra seating in the rear when camped. However, whilst making the living area well equipped, it does not provide the one feature that epitomises the campervan – the ‘walk through’

WHAT ARE CAPTAINS SEATS
What are Captain’s seats and why are they so necessary?….
Captain’s seats are single seats, often with comfort features like height and lumbar adjustment that compliment the standard rake feature. They are fitted with folding adjustable armrests that can be swung up out of the way to aid access and egress and are adjustable for angle so that you can position them just where you need them.

Captain’s seats are single seats, often with comfort features like height and lumbar adjustment that compliment the standard rake feature. They are fitted with folding adjustable armrests that can be swung up out of the way to aid access and egress and are adjustable for angle so that you can position them just where you need them.
SEAT SWIVELS
Fitting seat swivels gives your seats the ultimate campervan flexibility. Blue Sky only fit swivels from RIB and Sportscraft manufacturers. Both are crash tested and they are sturdy and easy to operate.
Commonly a swivel is fitted to the passenger seat. They can be fitted to the drivers seat too, although the furniture design and size may restrict the angle of swivel or completely prevent a swivel from operating. The drivers seat swivel has to be fitted with additional risers (30mm) so that the swivelling seat clears the (off) handbrake whilst retaining the factory handbrake trim.
The swivel adds approximately 30-40mm to the finished height of the seat.

TRIM FABRIC
The standard range of oem VW fabrics have proven popular and hard wearing.
The first fabric seen in the T5 when it was launched was the Inca pattern which was used throughout the T5 production right up to the introduction of the facelift model in 2009/10. Other trims that were available though not as popular were the ‘L’ and ‘OXO’ patterns.
VW introduced the ‘Place’ trim in 2009 and was most popular throughout the T5.1 GP production.
‘Tassimo’ is another popular trim from the Caravelle range. More recently the ‘Austin’ fabric has been introduced.
Any modern upholstery can be fitted to your Captains seats ranging from Leather to Alcantara, with a range of designs available including the classic ‘Bentley’ diamind pattern, all finished off with contrasting stitching.
